Gender and Transsexuality
Mark of We Win, They Lose posts a note here about 'gender neutral' bathrooms in Bangkok (not Beijing as posted) and ties it into the current debate on homosexuality.
In Part 2 of my essay series posted last week, I discussed in depth the 'hard-wired' theory of homosexuality and why it doesn't have (or shouldn't have, rather) any credibility to it. I originally had a paragraph about transsexuals which said more or less the same thing as Mark--but it got cut because the essay was too long as it was. The basic thesis, though, is the same: Transsexuals say gender is not 'absolute' even though genetically a person is very clearly and identifiably either male or female at birth. Homosexual 'hard-wiring' theory says sexual orientation is absolute despite NOT having a definitive genetic indicator like gender.
Can't have it both ways, guys...
