Latest excuse for lazy parenting...

"R-cards" for kids to see R-rated movies without having to drag a parent along with them... Created especially for parents who complained they didn't want to sit through R-rated movies themselves but didn't care if their kids saw them.

An ironic and revealing quote: 15 year old Sydni Norris--"I like it because now we don't have to wait until [R-rated movies] come out on video."

"From what I can tell, the people who have them like them and the parents are trying to use them responsibly." -- James Whitman, director of operations and marketing for the theater chain that started the idea. ['From what I can tell'? How would you be able to tell if the parents weren't using them responsibly, Mr. Whitman?]

"We're not being inundated with kids whose parents are giving them access to everything that comes on the screen,"-- Whitman again. [Again...how would you be able to tell?]

Now, of course, the movie rating system is horribly flawed as it is (see my post here)...but I can't believe this isn't going to do more harm than good...

How long do you think it will take before fake R-cards start showing up?
