Can someone explain to me...

...why I would want to wear a T-shirt from this site?

Why would anyone want to wear a shirt that only emphasizes the negative--the things you 'can't' do, versus the things you can. Is this made for people who are proud of being LDS, or those who are feeling kind of antagonistic about the things the Church tells you not to do, so they're expressing their frustration on a T-shirt.

Note also the elegantly phrased "I've upped my standards...so UP YOURS" T-shirt, also available. Gee, I can't wait to buy those for my kids... How does 'upping your standards' correlate with the "NCMO" shirts? The mind boggles...

Someone is crossing that line from funny to obnoxious. Is "DTR" an obvious acronym? I'm not sure what it's supposed to stand for, or if it's some kind of pun on CTR?

I believe DTR is referring to the "Define The Relationship" talks that young Church couples have when deciding to be boyfriend/girlfriend or get engaged or 'I think of you just as a friend...', etc...

I'm still confused why the T-shirt has a clear anti-DTR message since virtually all couples will have to have a DTR somewhere along the line, unless the message is specifically against those Church couples who date once and then discuss marriage the day after...

Again, the whole concept behind these shirts boggles the mind...

Oh, for those who don't live in Utah...

NCMO -- Non-Committal Make Out
VL -- Virgin Lips

Both of which should be self-explanatory...

Ah, I see now. I'm not sure why a DTR would be undesirable unless it's the beginning point of an unwanted breakup?

I have always had a hard time with Utahans trying to force regional-specific lingo as being across-the-board Mormon. Until I read this post, I had never heard of NCMO, DTR or VL.

danithew, given the desire to wear NCMO shirts, is it any wonder why people wouldn't want to DTR?

The problem is that they aren't even a clever take on these terms. It's just saying them, as if that is clever enough to put on a t-shirt and wear. Saying NCMO doesn't say anything except how unoriginal you are. Maybe if it said "I have regular sex. I'm married!" THAT would be funny to see on BYU campus.

I think the "No DTR" shirt is supposed to imply that the person is interested in casual dating (including NCMOs), not in a serious relationship.

It's not all that regional really. Since a lot of people I know have gone off to one of the BYUs and/or served missions in the Wasatch Front most of my friends know what a DTR, NCMO and a few other "Utah-isms" are.

I find the site funny and only marginally offensive at worst.

As for NO-DTRs t-shirt. Any guy who has had a girl pull out a DTR on the first date would happily invest in the shirt. No exaggeration. It happened. First date... It's probably the only shirt I genuinely like. I'd have had more fun with it though... I may design my own simply because I'm a bit more creative than the guys at that site apparently.
