Maxwell Moments: September 19, 2004

We are so busy checking our own temperatures, we do not notice the burning fevers of others even when we can offer them some of the needed remedies, such as encouragement, kindness, and commendation. The hands which hang down and most need to be lifted up often belong to those too discouraged even to reach out anymore. (Ensign, November 1995, p. 23.)

If certain mortal experiences were cut short, it would be like pulling up a flower to see how the roots are doing. Put another way, too many anxious openings of the oven door, and the cake falls instead of rising. (Ensign, May 1990, p. 33.)
God never can justify us "in committing a little sin." (2 Ne. 28:8.) He is the God of the universe, not some night-court judge with whom we can haggle and plea bargain! (Ensign, November 1988, p. 33.)
Decrease the belief in God … and behold the large increase in the numbers of those who wish to play at being God. Such societal supervisors may deny the existence of divine ways but they are very serious about imposing their own ways. (If Thou Endure It Well, p. 17.)
Playing to the gallery in all its forms involves a wearying regimen. We cannot finally be concerned about pleasing Him if we are too concerned about pleasing them. Besides, playing to the roar of the crowd, be it a few peers or an imagined multitude, ends as an empty exercise. One realizes finally that he is in the wrong theater. (We Will Prove Them Herewith, p. 104.)
